Job Overview
To provide a comprehensive financial management service to corporate managers within one or more directorates. This will involve working closely with budget managers to provide financial management advice and support using information produced by the management accounting team. The role involves the production of timely and accurate management information, and requires both technical knowledge of accounting procedures and an understanding of the operational business of the Trust. The senior management accountant is part of a team providing support to one or more Executive Directors.
Main Responsibilities
• Produce monthly budget reports for services within one or more directorates, ensuring data accuracy and timely reporting.
• Understand key drivers of financial performance and communicate them effectively to budget holders.
• Meet regularly with budget holders to discuss performance, investigate variances and support decision‑making.
• Identify and communicate concerns, providing corrective advice and monitoring implementation.
• Attend Directorate Senior Management Team meetings and present financial information clearly.
• Undertake costings for new developments and service enhancements and advise on revenue implications of business cases.
• Support managers to develop an annual budget, costing staffing establishments, non‑pay expenditure and income flows.
• Assist with Cost Improvement Programmes (CIP) monitoring and delivery of cost reductions.
• Monitor contract income, raise and reconcile block invoices and liaise with debtor organisations.
• Provide training and advice to budget holders on financial systems and procedures.
• Contribute to the production of the Trust Annual Accounts and related working papers.
Person Specification
Educational Qualifications – Essential
* Membership of AAT, relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience.
* Enrolled or willing to start a CCAB or equivalent qualification.
* Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development.
* GCSE level or equivalent.
Desirable
* Willingness to learn new skills.
Knowledge – Essential
* Proficient in IT software including spreadsheets and word processing.
* Knowledge of NHS finance regime.
* Awareness of current NHS issues and challenges.
Skills/Experience – Essential
* Strong IT/computer skills.
* Good oral communication skills in fluent English.
* Experience working in an NHS finance department using computerised financial information systems.
* Ability to present and explain complex financial information to non‑financial managers.
* High accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
