This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Multi Skilled Craftsman to join our Charity at our Birmingham Hospital.
Location: Stirchley, Birmingham
Salary: From £30,595 Per Annum + on call enhancements & overtime available (depending on experience)
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 118-bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprising eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. It is located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.
The Role: -
The Multi-Skilled Craftsman will be responsible for delivering both planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks in line with agreed service levels, supporting St Andrew’s Healthcare's strategic, operational, and financial objectives. This role requires a proactive, can-do approach to a wide range of maintenance duties, including fire and electrical system maintenance, minor carpentry and decorating, and basic plumbing and water hygiene tasks.
The ideal candidate will have proven, hands-on experience in the building maintenance industry across multiple trades, including (but not limited to) electrical works, plumbing, and water hygiene. Previous experience working within a healthcare environment is desirable.
Key Responsibilities: -
Working hands-on as part of the Maintenance Team, undertaking a wide range of tasks including (but not limited to) electrical works, general building maintenance, minor carpentry, door and window repairs, flooring, tiling, locksmith services, painting and decorating, plumbing, and water hygiene duties.
* Ensure all local minor projects, reactive maintenance, and PPM tasks are completed per agreed service levels and key performance indicators (KPIs).
* Support the delivery of minor maintenance projects and respond to emergency maintenance tasks as required.
* Identify, troubleshoot, and report maintenance issues, providing hands-on support for repairs and remedial works to the built environment.
* Assist in effectively managing maintenance workshops and stores, ensuring tools and materials are properly maintained and available.
* Promote and uphold safe systems of work for in-house teams and external contractors, including preparing and reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
* Complete all tasks promptly, efficiently, compliantly, and safely, consistently adhering to St Andrew’s Healthcare policies and procedures.
* Weekend and on-call duties are expected.
Essential Criteria:
* City & Guilds Mechanical Craft Certificate, Mechanical Technicians Course, or approved equivalent.
* Demonstrable multi-skilled maintenance experience across disciplines.
* Experience in a commercial maintenance environment.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
* Ability to coordinate with team members and communicate effectively with hospital staff.
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience in a healthcare or secure environment.
* Knowledge of CAFM systems (e.g., MICAD).
* Experience with maintenance compliance.
