General Operative – Substations (Power T&D)

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) is looking for a proactive and committed General Operative – Substations to join our team in Woolavington. This is an excellent opportunity to support major infrastructure projects that build and maintain the UK’s high-voltage overhead transmission networks.
About The Role
As a General Operative, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our Project Stores and associated Yard. You will support the Stores Person and HGV Drivers in the handling, issuing, and receiving of a wide range of materials and equipment vital to our high-voltage transmission line projects.
What you'll be doing
To Assist with
* The HGV driver with all duties
* The Stores Person of all duties.
* The co-ordination of plant & stock ensuring all administration procedures are followed and ensuring accurate stock management.
* Liaise with operational Staff to ensure materials required for site are arranged and accessible in line with operational needs.
* Unloading & loading of delivery vehicles.
* Check deliveries against advice notes and for quality, quantities & damage.
* Hiring, acceptance and off hiring of plant and equipment.
* Management of the calibration of tools & equipment (inc Lifting)
* Security of yard ensuring access is only permitted to authorised personnel.
* Ensuring yard(s) and store is always tidy.
* Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions whilst at work.
* Cooperate with BB in all matters pertaining to Health and Safety to enable the Company to carry out and enhance its legal duties and requirements.
* Do not recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare.
* Bring to the attention of your manager any perceived shortcomings in health and safety arrangements or situations that you consider to be serious or imminent danger to yourself or others.
* Do not undertake any safety critical work activity or activity for which a specific competence is required unless you have received the necessary training/instruction and/or assessment and hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work. Do not instruct others to undertake such work if they do not hold the appropriate Certificate of Competence/Authority to Work
Who we're looking for
The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential
* Full clean driving licence
* Ability to work in a team
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Able to undertake work in high pressure situations
The Following Qualities/experience Are Desirable
* Experience of working on a variety of construction project types.
* Knowledge of the Power industry (is an advantage)
* Valid Telehandler licence (will be an advantage)
* OHL Authorisations (will be an advantage)
* Emergency First Aid at Work
