Job Overview

Department: Academic/Bath Spa University partnership (BSU)

Location: Birmingham (On‑Site)

Salary: £51,000

Contract: Full‑Time, Permanent (40 hrs/week)

The role: We are currently seeking Lecturers to teach across a range of undergraduate levels as part of our BSc (Hons) Computing programme. Due to our delivery model, we require flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings and at weekends. Please note this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.


What you’ll be doing

As a Lecturer in Computing at Global Banking School, you will deliver modules based around the three main themes of the programme: Technology, Software and Data. You will develop and deliver comprehensive course materials that equip students with an understanding of database systems, internet technologies, data, cyber security, networking and business information systems. You will undertake all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment of students and keep up to date with the latest developments in your field and student support practices.


Responsibilities

* Plan, deliver and assess student work, ensuring learning outcomes are met.
* Develop, update and improve course materials as appropriate.
* Use a variety of learning and teaching methods/materials.
* Actively engage in staff development activities, peer observations, meetings and other administrative duties.
* Stay informed of developments in your field and student support practices.
* Work towards defined objectives for student attendance, continuation, completion, satisfaction and progression.


Qualifications

* Hold a master’s degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable).
* Previous UK HE lecturing experience in the wider subject area.
* Extensive knowledge of at least two of the following areas:
* Programming and software development
* Web development
* Database systems
* Cloud computing
* Networking
* Cybersecurity
* IoT and emerging technologies
* Business IT systems
* IT management
* AI and Machine Learning
* Operating Systems
* UI/UX
* Experience supervising student work and providing support and feedback.
* Experience of accurate reporting and maintaining thorough student records.
* Ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and team‑working skills.
* Ability to work with diverse groups of people.


Desirable

* Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during probation).
* Experience in design/development of academic or professional education programmes.
