We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist to join our team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. The Speech and Language Therapy Service is a well-established team, providing services to adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties across a variety of clinical areas: General adult inpatient wards Acute stroke unit Clatterbridge Rehabilitation Centre (Stroke rehabilitation and Neuro Rehabilitation Network Beds) Stroke Early Supported Discharge Voice Restoration Service Head and Neck Cancer (inpatient and Outpatients The post holder will have opportunity to gain experience across these areas. All staff are supported through regular clinical team meetings, personal development planning, CPD, and clinical supervision. WUTH has a preceptorship programme for all new graduates. the service shares an office with the dietetic service which supports easy communication about patient care. We welcome applications from existing Speech and Language Therapists with HCPC registration and from candidates undergoing relevant Speech and Language Therapy qualifications to be registered with the HCPC. Under the supervision of a Senior Speech and Language Therapist the post holder will: - As a qualified clinician, assess, plan and deliver individualised programme of intervention evaluating the effectiveness for patients presenting with a range of conditions. Giving advice to patients and their carers when required. Prioritise and plan own patient caseload according to needs of the patient and resources available. Direct supervision and support from a Senior Speech and Language Therapist is regularly provided and clinical work is routinely evaluated. Contribute to the discussions on service and policy development and implement in the workplace as directed. Be responsible for the effective manual and computer recording of patient interventions accurately and appropriately, following Service/ Trust Policy. Be responsible for the collection/input of clinical information and statistics for patients. Be responsible for producing timely, accurate and informative clinical reports for other agencies as required. Identify the current and potential future needs of the patient and be responsible for initiating appropriate referrals to a variety of internal and external agencies. Undertake evidence based audit reporting findings to the team.
