Role Overview The Technical Assistant role is a crucial stepping stone for those looking to develop their careers in outside broadcast operations. This role is intended for somebody with a media technology background who might have held an audio/video, networking or camera-based role previously, and aims to further develop their expertise in live broadcast operations. The Technical Assistant will work closely with all technical departments including Vision, Audio, Cameras, Networking, VT and RF, supporting both the preparation of equipment and its deployment on location for high-profile outside broadcasts. Time will be evenly split between working on-site at events and working in base in Bracknell, preparing and de-prepping their assigned jobs. This ensures a well-rounded understanding of both the technical preparation and the real-time operation of live broadcasts. Technical Assistants will be multi-disciplined individuals, working with and learning from experienced engineers and team members in a hands-on environment. Independent learning as well as training through guided tasks will form the] structured learning approach that will accelerate career progression and technical development. Key Responsibilities Preparation & Maintenance Take ownership of the preparation, testing, and maintenance of broadcast equipment before deployment to outside broadcasts. Assist in assembling, configuring, and troubleshooting systems in base before they are sent to events. Ensure all equipment is complete, functioning correctly, and appropriately packaged for transport. Work with[technical teams to pre-configure camera chains, video routing, audio setups, and other core systems. Support the return process by de-prepping, testing, cleaning, and storing equipment post-event. On-Site Technical Support Travel to event sites to assist with rigging, setting up, and de-rigging of outside broadcast facilities. Provide hands-on support to engineers in setting up broadcast systems. Act as an additional technical resource for troubleshooting and problem-solving in live environments. Assist in cabling, system integration, and technical maintenance during production. Liaise with operational teams and senior technical staff to ensure that broadcast requirements are met efficiently. Stock & Asset Management Support stores and warehouse teams in maintaining an organised and efficient workspace. Monitor stock levels of key spare parts and consumables, ensuring that all items are available as needed. Manage equipment lists and track assets using NEP�s internal systems. Effective Communication: Ability to work within a team and interact professionally with colleagues and clients. Flexible Approach to Work: Willingness to work across weekdays and weekends (5 days in 7), with an understanding that schedules will vary based on live production needs. Commitment to Learning: Passion for broadcast technology, with an eagerness to develop technical skills and progress into senior roles Interests and Background: Technical understanding of cameras, video, audio, networking and RF equipment. Familiarity with outside broadcast workflows, either through prior work experience or academic studies in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, Engineering, networking or a related field. In addition to on-the-job training, you'll receive targeted instruction in key areas such as Vision, Audio, Cameras, Fibre, Maintenance, and critically broadcast fundamentals, ensuring you develop a well-rounded skill set essential for success in this role. More Details: Location: Primarily based in NEP UK�s head office in Bracknell, with a split between on-site and in-base work. Working Hours: 5 days in 7, not differentiating between weekends and weekdays, with variable schedules based on event requirements. All applicants must hold the legal right to live and work in the UK. A UK driving licence and access to a vehicle helpful.
