An opportunity has arisen for an 8b Consultant Radiographer to join our team to support the delivery of an increasing symptomatic breast imaging service and the NHS breast screening programme at Wycombe Hospital.
The post holder will be expected to undertake advanced practice in multiple modalities, demonstrating a high level of knowledge, clinical reasoning, and experience.
The unit diagnoses nearly 600 new breast cancer cases per year, and the radiology team provides timely imaging support for four breast surgeons.
The post-holder will possess a BSc in Radiography or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years of Advanced Practitioner experience in various breast imaging areas.
They will be HCPC registered and hold the Certificate of Competence in Mammography or a Post-graduate Award in Mammography. Additionally, the post-holder will have post-graduate qualifications in film reading/reporting, interventional techniques, breast ultrasound, and breast examination. Experience as an Advanced Practitioner/Consultant radiographer in Breast Imaging is required, along with an MSc in advanced mammography practice.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide expert care to patients with or at risk of breast disease, including assessment and diagnosis. They will exercise professional autonomy to improve patient outcomes and will collaborate with the Breast Imaging Services Manager, Clinical Lead for Breast Imaging, and the Band 8c Consultant Radiographer to develop services in line with best practices and national guidelines.
They must adhere to HCPC and Society of Radiographers codes, local policies, and participate in clinical supervision and peer review. The role involves autonomous day-to-day practice with a personal caseload, with opportunities to consult with radiologists and colleagues on complex cases.
