About The Role
ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
The Safety Manager Aviation is integral to ensuring ABM Aviation's safety protocols and procedures are effectively implemented across our PRM operations at London Heathrow Airport. The primary focus will be on fostering a culture of safety excellence, compliance with aviation regulations, and continuous improvement in safety practices throughout the organisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Facilitate and drive internal compliance and awareness of QHSE throughout the operation, by ensuring that corporate and sector policy/procedures are adhered to and complied with
2. Assist the Head of QHSE in the maintaining aviation sector QHSE procedures
3. Implement QHSE policies changes, in conjunction with the Head of QHSE
4. Support the Head of QHSE in the review of internal system procedures, inc. ensuring QHSE reporting platforms are updated, monitored, maintained
5. Work proactively with managers and other key employees to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of health, safety and wellbeing within their areas of responsibility
6. Collaborate closely with operational teams to ensure safety concerns are addressed effectively and in a timely manner
7. Oversee the implementation, and monitoring of safety management systems (SMS) and support development in accordance with safety regulatory requirements
8. Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with industry standards
9. Lead the investigation of incidents and accidents, preparing detailed reports and recommendations to prevent recurrence
10. Analyse safety performance data and develop proactive strategies to enhance safety outcomes
11. Act as the primary point of contact for aviation safety-related inquiries, maintaining communication with relevant stakeholders, including regulatory bodies
12. Facilitate safety meetings, workshops, and seminars to engage Customers, employees and leadership on safety initiatives
13. Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and standards to ensure ABM Aviation stays at the forefront of safety management
14. Support in the Management of insurance claims, inclusive of ascertaining the occurrence through investigation reports
15. Plan practical and effective methods (both preventative and remedial) when promoting QHSE and safe working practices including risk assessment
16. Support the operation in the delivery of management QHSE training and monitoring of competencies
17. Deliver safety training programs for all employees, promoting awareness and adherence to safety policies and procedures
About You
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
18. Professional certifications in aviation safety or health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH)
19. Knowledge of aviation regulations, standards, and best practices (CAA, ICAO, EASA, etc.)
20. Good knowledge of health, safety, environment and quality standards, management and implementation
21. Experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
22. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
23. The ability to build and maintain professional and proactive relationships with the organisation, our client base and the Aviation Management peer group
24. Demonstrated ability to promote a positive safety culture and engage employees in safety initiatives
25. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
26. Strong organisation, prioritisation and planning skills
27. Full clean UK driving licence or other accepted licence
Desirable
28. A minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation safety management or a similar role
29. A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
30. Level 3 trainer (Health & Safety Training) (IOSH)
31. Membership of Health and Safety networking professional forums / organisations i.e. IOSH
32. Internal Auditor
33. Experience in the implementation of Safety Management Systems
34. Understanding of emergency response planning and crisis management
35. First Aid at Work certificate
Health & Safety Responsibilities
36. Always follow ABM Group and company policies and procedures
37. Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment
38. Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received
39. Report any issues or training needs to your Line manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system
