Senior Engineer (Temporary Works Focus)
Location: Suffolk
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Engineer with a strong Temporary Works background to support major project delivery in Suffolk.
You will take responsibility for leading engineering activities across a defined section of works, bringing sound technical judgement, commercial awareness and the confidence to make informed decisions. You will often work within a broader engineering team but may also lead independently on smaller projects or packages. Temporary Works expertise will be central to your role - ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, well‐designed and fully integrated into construction methodology.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead Temporary Works coordination for your section, ensuring full compliance with design standards, safety requirements and project procedures.
* Identify and challenge risk, driving robust engineering solutions that support safe, efficient and buildable outcomes.
* Liaise closely with Temporary Works Designers, consultants and subcontractors to develop, review and approve engineering solutions.
* Anticipate engineering and constructability issues early, resolving them proactively to minimise programme and cost impacts.
* Develop and implement construction methodologies with a clear understanding of the critical path and wider project interfaces.
* Manage engineering delivery across your work area, delegating tasks effectively and mentoring junior engineers.
* Review completed works and processes, capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement.
* Contribute to BIM Level 2 processes, maintaining high‐quality data, records and engineering documentation.
* Ensure all works are delivered safely through robust RAMS, active monitoring, and strong subcontractor safety leadership.
* Support effective project and commercial management by contributing to cost estimating, resource planning, progress tracking and carbon reduction initiatives.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who has:
* Strong, demonstrable experience in Temporary Works within major civil engineering projects.
* Confidence in making engineering decisions with awareness of safety, commercial and programme considerations.
* Ability to lead engineering activities and mentor junior team members.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills - able to work with designers, consultants, clients and subcontractors.
* Knowledge of BIM Level 2 principles and digital information management.
* A proactive approach to problem‐solving, continuous improvement and innovation.
