Financial Controller, Somerset, £60-70K plus benefits
Growing International SME, Future FD Opportunity, Hybrid Working
We are partnering with an ambitious, growing SME to appoint a Financial Controller in a high-impact role with clear progression to Finance Director as the business continues to scale.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a recently qualified (or post-qualified) ACA/ACCA from a Top 10 firm, looking to make a meaningful move into industry, or for an SME-experienced finance professional seeking a broader, more strategic position.
The Opportunity
Joining at an exciting stage of growth, you will work closely with senior leadership and gain real exposure to the strategic and commercial drivers of the business. With a developing finance function and international footprint, this role offers the chance to step beyond reporting into true business partnering — positioning you as a natural successor to a future FD role.
The Role
Operating in a multi-entity, international environment, you will take ownership of core financial control while also driving improvements and adding commercial insight.
Responsibilities will include:
Leading month-end and year-end reporting across multiple entities
Ensuring strong financial governance, controls and compliance
Managing tax and VAT requirements across several jurisdictions, liaising with external advisors
Owning the budgeting and forecasting process, with meaningful analysis and insight
Supporting strategic decision-making through financial modelling and performance tracking
Managing cash flow and working capital across the group
Driving improvements in systems, processes and reporting (including ERP optimisation)
Coordinating audits and proactively managing financial risk
This is a hands-on role within a lean team, where you will be expected to operate both strategically and at detail level.
About You
We are looking for an ambitious, high-calibre finance professional who is ready to take the next step in their career trajectory.
You will likely:
Be ACA / ACCA /CIMA Qualified or equivalent
Making a first or second move into industry, or already operating within an SME environment
Have experience of working with multiple entities (international exposure advantageous)
Be confident working with ERP systems and developing reporting capability
Enjoy working in a hands-on, evolving business environment
Have strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders
Be motivated by progression and keen to develop toward a future Finance Director role
