The role
SSEN Transmission is looking for two Marine Consents Managers to help develop and consent some of the most significant subsea cable projects in Europe. From inter-island connections in the Northern Isles to large-scale HVDC systems, you'll be at the forefront of energy infrastructure development. If you have a strong understanding of the marine environment and experience in offshore development and consenting, this is your chance to shape the future of clean energy. Alongside working on critical subsea cable projects, you'll join a multi-award-winning team, recently recognised as the Royal Town Planning Institute 'In House Planning Team of the Year' for 2025. Marine operations run 24/7 year-round, so a commitment to being available during key activities is essential. The role also requires travel, sometimes at short notice, to project sites and vessels.
You will
* Be responsible for developing and consenting some of the most significant subsea cable infrastructure in Europe, working at the leading edge of project development, consenting and environmental management.
* Manage a diverse range of marine projects, from short inter-island cable routes to large-scale HVDC systems and offshore infrastructure, with increasing responsibility aligned to your experience and development.
* Apply expert knowledge of the marine environment, including species, habitats, and ecological systems to undertake site selection, consenting and environmental compliance for subsea cable projects.
* Produce and review high-quality environmental reports and impact assessments, commission work to EIA standards, and interpret marine survey data, with experience in ISO-compliant environmental auditing valued.
You have
* Demonstratable experience working in the marine environment industry through relevant industry or consultancy experience.
* A very strong understanding of marine licensing legislation, its purpose and how it interacts with offshore development. Able to assess a project from initial design and determine how to licence each project stage and be able to independently manage this process with regulatory stakeholders.
* Excellent communication skills, able to communicate clearly and concisely to a range of stakeholders across various disciplines and have the confidence to challenge project team members at different seniority levels.
* The ability to think critically and plan strategically, applying personal and team experience to provide subject matter expertise to influence project teams and deliver positive environmental outcomes.
* Demonstratable understanding of marine survey data such as bathymetry, side‑scan sonar, sub‑bottom profiling, and benthic sampling, and how to interpret these in relation to marine habitats, protected features and impact mitigation.
