PE Global is currently recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer (Mechanical / Electrical) to join our multinational manufacturing client based in Peterlee, County Durham. This role is an initial 12-month contract, the rate is £29.55 PAYE or £39.93 Umbrella p/hour.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the mechanical design and integration of electrical systems across complex off-highway vehicle platforms.
* Design and develop components, brackets, harness routing paths, enclosures, and installation schemes that ensure optimal performance, durability, and serviceability.
* Own project delivery, including cost, quality, validation, and schedule management.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical design, electrical systems, manufacturing, purchasing, and suppliers.
* Support supplier development activities to improve manufacturability, quality, and lifecycle efficiency.
* Participate in design reviews, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and best practices.
* Coordinate prototype builds, testing activities, and technical analysis including fit, form, function, and durability assessments.
* Drive continuous improvement and support new product development, technology upgrades, and major vehicle platform updates.
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
* Experience leading engineering or design projects from concept through production.
* Strong background in vehicle systems integration, packaging, routing, installation design, or harness routing.
* Experience within automotive, off-highway, agricultural machinery, mobile equipment, or similar industries.
* Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Experience using Creo, Vis View, and Teamcenter.
* Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced engineering environment.
