SEN Learning & Behaviour Mentor – GL14


Full or Part-Time | Term-Time Only | Start ASAP

Applicants MUST be able to drive (rural location – no public transport access)

About the Role

A specialist school in the GL14 area is seeking empathetic, resilient, and committed Learning & Behaviour Mentors to support children and young people with additional needs. Pupils may be aged 7–18 and experience:

* Autism, ADHD & communication differences
* Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs
* ⚡ Behavioural or trauma‑related challenges
* Anxiety, low mood or emotional regulation difficulties
* Barriers to learning or difficulties engaging in lessons

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver 1:1 and small‑group support tailored to individual needs
* Build safe, trusting, positive relationships
* Support emotional regulation, anxiety & communication
* Help pupils stay focused and access learning
* Use early intervention & de‑escalation techniques
* ‍ Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists & pastoral teams
* Provide calm, consistent, structured support
* Act as a positive role model for resilience & wellbeing

✨ Who This Role Suits

We welcome applicants from many backgrounds, including:

* Psychology, Education, Criminology or Youth Work graduates
* Support Workers, Teaching Assistants or Behaviour Mentors
* Sports coaches, activity leaders & creative arts mentors
* Youth workers, care staff, pastoral or mentoring backgrounds
* Anyone passionate about supporting vulnerable or neurodivergent young people

No formal teaching qualification required — empathy, patience and consistency matter most.

✅ Essential Requirements

* Full driving licence + access to a vehicle (non‑negotiable)
* Strong communication & relationship‑building skills
* Calm, nurturing and consistent under pressure
* Genuine interest in SEN, behaviour & child development
* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

Desirable (Not Essential)

* Experience with Autism, ADHD, SEMH or challenging behaviour
* ‍ Experience in schools, youth work or care settings
* ️ Training such as Team Teach, First Aid or Safeguarding (can be provided)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
