Contract : 12 months secondment / fixed term opportunity
28 days annual leave + bank holidays

We have an exciting opportunity to join Transpennine Route Upgrade as Community Relations Manager!
Transpennine Route Upgrade
The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a major multi-billion-pound railway programme in the North of England between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. It will transform journeys across the North, better connecting towns and cities through more frequent, faster, greener trains, running on a better, cleaner and more reliable railway.
TRU will bring passengers:
* More trains to choose from and more seats
* Faster journeys so you can travel to your favourite towns and cities more quickly.
* More reliable journeys with trains that run on-time
* Better stations
* Greener travel, reducing our carbon footprint and improving air quality
Stretching across the North of England, this key 70-mile rail artery serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.
Brief Description
To assist with the delivery of consistent and effective communications strategies for key projects that form part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade. To oversee and manage TRU’s social media channels and website, helping to protect and enhance corporate reputation and promote the progress being made.
About The Role (External)
Some of the key accountabilities of this role include:
* Managing day-to-day social channels – Plan, create, schedule and publish engaging content across our social media platforms, ensuring posts are timely, accurate and aligned with our communications plans.
* Supporting campaign delivery – Work with Communications Managers to deliver activity from communications plans, translating them into engaging social media content and campaigns.
* Monitoring and reporting on performance – Track engagement, reach and sentiment across channels, providing regular performance updates and insights to the Communications Managers.
* Community management – Monitor comments, messages and mentions, responding where appropriate or escalating to Communications Managers to manage reputational risks.
* Content development – Draft copy, source imagery and produce basic graphics/videos to bring stories to life online, ensuring all content is on-brand and accessible.
* Support external engagement – Use social channels to support stakeholder and community engagement, sharing key updates and managing public responses in line with agreed messaging.
* Ensure consistency and compliance – Check all social media activity aligns with brand guidelines, tone of voice and TRU’s corporate policies.
* Assist with internal comms support – Provide material and content for use on corporate channels and assist with internal campaign rollouts.
* Manage website content – Work closely with the communication managers to ensure that the website is regularly updated and contains the latest information about projects
* Produce regular reports on all communications activities on the project, including budget.
We need you to have:
* Educated to degree level
* Experience in communications, either internal or external
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Good organisational and time management skills
It would be advantageous if you have:
* Experience managing social media channels – Some hands-on experience running or supporting corporate/brand social accounts, with an understanding of how different platforms operate.
* Content creation skills – Ability to produce engaging copy, images and short-form video content tailored for social media, with a good eye for detail and accuracy.
* Writing and storytelling – Strong writing skills for digital platforms, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and translate complex information into clear, engaging posts.
* Collaboration and support – Confident working with Communications Managers and colleagues across the business, building positive relationships to support delivery of communication plans.
* Awareness of media and reputation – Understanding of how online conversations and news coverage can impact reputation, and ability to flag issues to senior team members.
* Proactive and organised – Able to manage multiple content deadlines, monitor activity across channels and prioritise effectively.
* Curiosity for trends – Awareness of social media trends and emerging best practice, with enthusiasm to test new ideas and share insights with the team.
