Postdoctoral Research Associate

The department is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr Ioannis Vakonakis for structural studies of proteins involved in micrometer-level assemblies.
The group focuses on centriole biogenesis and assemblies causing malaria cytoadherence. You will provide structural and mechanistic information on protein components using computational, structural and biophysical methods. You will use this and cell biology information to propose and test structure/function relationships. On both projects we have established interdisciplinary collaborations to leverage our mechanistic insights. Relevant references include Kitagawa et al. (2011) Cell 144:364; Hilbert et al. (2013) PNAS 110:11373 and Mayer et al. (2012) J Biol Chem 287:7182.
Applicants will have, or be in the process of completing a PhD in natural sciences. Experience in structural biology (broadly defined, for example biomolecular NMR, crystallography, SAXS/SANS, EM) is required. Past experience with complementary biophysical techniques and biomolecular interactions is highly desirable. This full-time post is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Department of Biochemistry for up to 18 months in the first instance, and is based in the New Biochemistry building, South Parks Road, Oxford.
The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
