Our Litigation team is experienced in handling all kinds of disputes. We act on behalf of large corporates, owner-managed businesses, public bodies, insurers, regulatory bodies, and private individuals. Members of all levels of qualification across the team regularly deal with complex, high-profile, and sensitive issues across a broad range of litigation with far-reaching implications. The team and many within it are recognized in both Chambers and Legal 500.
The Litigation team undertakes a broad range of substantial, challenging work, largely of a contentious nature. You will support the lead Partner and other case handlers with their caseloads related to carriage of goods and broader marine work. This role provides an opportunity to work with an experienced Partner and team handling carriage of goods and marine disputes. The work will involve a variety of tasks led by an experienced Partner, with support from other fee earners and independent work where appropriate.
We are recruiting for a Litigation Solicitor with 3+ years PQE to manage their own caseload, including proactive case management with limited supervision.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Assisting the lead Partner and other case handlers with their caseloads
2. Preparing advice and reports to insurers as required
3. Drafting and conducting legal research and investigations, focusing on carriage of goods and marine issues
4. Attending conferences, court proceedings, and client meetings
5. Communicating with clients, counsel, and other parties
6. Participating in business development and profile-raising initiatives, aligned with relevant sector groups
7. Completing client and internal MI procedures
8. Achieving set financial and chargeable targets
9. Adhering to deadlines, quality measures, and KPIs
10. Complying with policies and procedures
11. Working in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You
1. At least 3 years’ PQE or equivalent, with essential experience in carriage of goods issues and preferable broader marine experience
2. Experience in marine/transport and logistics/carriage of goods work is essential; candidates lacking this will not be considered
3. Extensive litigation experience, with proven technical ability and a record of achievement
4. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, manage caseloads, and deliver effective solutions
5. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, with a positive attitude
6. A commercial, solution-oriented, and client-focused approach
7. Strong legal and analytical skills with attention to detail
8. Excellent organizational and time-management skills
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
10. Flexible and adaptable working approach
11. Proficient IT skills
