My client, a well-respected accountancy practice, is seeking a motivated and highly organised Accounts Assistant to join the practice.
Your new role
This role involves preparing VAT returns,pleting bookkeeping tasks—including bank reconciliations and ledger updates—and supporting day‑to‑day office administration.You will work with a varied client base including limitedpanies, sole traders, and partnerships. Experience with Sage, QuickBooks, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential.
Key Responsibilities
VAT Returns
1. Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations.
2. Ensure accurate categorisation and recording of VAT transactions.
Bookkeeping
3. Maintain and update client ledgers.
4. Ensure timely and accurate posting of financial transactions.
Clientmunication
5. Respond to client queries and provide clear accounting support.
6. Assist in preparing year‑end accounts.
7. Build and maintain strong, professional client relationships.
Office Administration
8. Support general office duties including filing, document management, and correspondence.
9. Maintain digital client files and records.
10. Help prepare and submit tax returns.
Software & Systems
11. Use Sage and QuickBooks to manage client accounting records.
12. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of financial data.
Additional Duties
13. Support the Senior Accountant with ad‑hoc projects and tasks.
14. Assist with wider accounting functions to ensure deadlines are met.
What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant or similar role.
15. Proficiency with Sage, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel.
16. Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy.
17. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
18. Strong verbal and writtenmunication skills.
19. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Desirable
20. Experience working with limitedpanies, sole traders, and partnerships.
21. Familiarity with year‑end accounts and corporation tax preparation.
22. Experience in client‑facing roles or giving basic professional advice.
Qualifications
23. AAT Level 3+ preferred.
24. Other relevant qualifications or equivalent experience will be considered.
