Start of year guide

Truro
Truro and Penwith College
Posted: 10 July
Offer description

Start the year smoothly with our checklist for students, parents and carers—covering bursaries, bus passes, submitting GCSE results, first-day information and more. If you're thinking about starting with us, it isn't too late to apply.

Start of year can be a busy time; we have created a simple checklist below to help you on your way.

You will need to register as a parent/carer within the College portal. This account will then enable you to access absence reporting and student reports. You will be added to your young person if you are listed as Next of Kin.

It is important to approve all 4 consent forms and pay the £30 refundable College deposit once you have created the account. Please create an account using the button below.

Due to the volume of applications we receive, it is important that you submit your bursary application as soon as possible to ensure it is in place before the start of term.

Student bus passes will be available to purchase on the online payment system in early August and where applicable you will need to have your bursary approved before buying your bus pass. Students without a bus pass will have to pay the driver each day for their bus travel or pay for a season ticket.

Please note: If you are not due to receive any results this year, you will still need to contact us at the given time to confirm your course choice. Any course choices or changes can be discussed on GCSE/Level 2 Results Day and Course Confirmation Day.

confirm your place and submit your results

It is essential that you confirm your course choice and submit results where applicable online as early as possible on the day of Thursday 21 August and by 5pm at the latest.

You need to access the College Portal. You can access this on your mobile phone, home computer or laptop.

You will be able to:

* Enter your results
* Confirm your choice of course
* Request a call back to discuss your options

We will confirm your course choice by email or call you back if it is necessary. Please contactAdmissions with any questions.

When you open your results, don’t worry if they aren’t what you were expecting. Come to an advice session with a friendly member of staff and discover the best route for your future. On Results Day itself, drop-in Advice Sessions for applicants are being held from 10am-3pm at Truro College, 1pm-4pm at Penwith College and from 10am-1pm at our STEM Centre, Bodmin. No need to book, please just come along to discuss any questions with our admissions and teaching teams.

Your first couple of days at college will be your induction period, allowing you to explore the campus and ask questions with your lecturers before your timetabled lessons start. There will only be first year students, progressing students and staff on campus during the induction period, giving you a quieter atmosphere to get your bearings and adjust to college life. You must attend your allocated induction and not any other one. You will need to provide/arrange your own transport for the induction or come by public transport. Log in to the College Portal on 1 September 2025to check where rooms will be for inductions. You will need to go to this room on your arrival. Staff and ambassadors will be on hand to help direct you. Many students will be arriving at the same time, so it's best to be prepared. At Truro College, there will be a car drop-off zone in the bus bay.

Morning sessions run from 9.15am - 12.15pm and afternoon sessions run from 1.15pm - 4.15pm.

Progression Pathways students: Each new student will be contacted by the department to make a 1-1 induction arrangement.
