Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join our Trust as a Lead Nurse in Dermatology based at Ormskirk Hospital.
The post-holder will provide expert leadership and management within a multi-disciplinary team and deliver highly advanced specialist/clinical nursing expertise for dermatology patients. The post-holder will advise primary and secondary care clinicians about setting up, delivering and evaluating patient care using evidence-based practice, and will provide a service in line with national, regional and local guidance, standards, protocols and policies to ensure positive outcomes for patients. The role includes contributing to senior management and governance frameworks and line management of band 7 and band 6 nurse specialists/nurse practitioners. A job plan will be agreed and reviewed annually, including appropriate clinical supervision. The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change. Interview date: To be confirmed.
Main duties of the job
* Provide expert leadership and management within a multi-disciplinary team and deliver highly advanced specialist/clinical nursing expertise for dermatology patients.
* Advise primary and secondary care clinicians on setting up, implementation, delivery and evaluation of patient care using evidence-based practice; provide a service in accordance with national, regional and local guidance and policies to achieve positive patient outcomes.
* Contribute to senior management and governance frameworks within the care group; line manager to band 7 and band 6 nurse specialists/nurse practitioners.
* Be responsible for the service budget in conjunction with Directorate Manager and ADM; ensure KPI data is collected and submitted to commissioners; act as first point of contact for commissioner queries.
* Adhere to legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice; promote standards of professional practice in accordance with NMC Code and Professional Conduct.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
CLINICAL LEADERSHIP & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Autonomous management of a caseload within the specialty; deliver direct patient care within the multidisciplinary team.
* Assess emergencies, interpret information, take action, and lead others accordingly.
* Act as an advocate for patients to ensure patient-centered care and meeting NHS standards.
* Ensure high-quality clinical care and patient experience, respecting cultural and personal beliefs.
* Engage service users through groups and open days; coordinate specialist services within hospital and community settings.
* Develop and run nurse-led clinics; autonomous practice including prescribing within competence limits.
* Provide education and support to clinical teams; lead on pathways and governance within the specialty.
* Maintain professional standards per NMC and ensure accurate records and communications.
* Lead outreach sessions across primary and secondary care as required.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Supervision of staff including appraisal and performance management; line manager to band 7 and band 6 specialists.
* Coordinate workload, recruitment, and deployment; authorise equipment use; monitor financial resources.
* Manage service changes with financial implications; contribute to HR processes such as sickness management.
* Support sustainability, capacity, and capability within the specialty; contribute to annual business planning and KPI achievement.
* Assist in budgeting and ensure KPI and CQUIN reporting to commissioners.
QUALITY
* Facilitate high-quality, cost-effective service through audits and quality initiatives.
* Lead developments in the specialty; participate in multi-professional meetings; set and monitor care standards; address unsafe environments.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
* Coordinate development of teaching and education programmes; support patients to develop self-management skills.
* Lead patient education and liaison with PEFs for student attachments; support CPD for nursing colleagues; gather feedback to improve education provision.
* Develop specialty curriculum and advise on specialty training commissioning; maintain NMC competency requirements.
RESEARCH & AUDIT
* Monitor standards, lead audit and research; prepare internal and external assessments (CQC, ward rounds).
* Lead Serious Untoward Incident Reviews; ensure lessons learned are applied to service improvements.
* Contribute to governance meetings; submit activity data and annual reports; promote nursing research and disseminate findings.
* Lead incident reporting and ensure safe practice with medicines administration adherence.

Qualifications
* NMC registration on Part 1
* Speciality related courses (certificated)
* Educated to Degree Level
* Teaching/coaching/mentoring qualification
* Leadership module at degree level or above
* Independent Non-Medical Prescriber
* Educated to Masters Level or willing to work towards
Knowledge & Experience
* Substantial post-registration experience
* Experience at band 7 in the specialty
* Experience developing clinical pathways/protocols; audit and research; multidisciplinary work
