Band 7 Safeguarding Facilitator

The closing date is 31 August 2025

We are looking for a dynamic, self- motivated and creative person to join our safeguarding team, with the remit of supporting mental health staff in the delivery and embedding of safeguarding in clinical settings across the trust.

Please note that the successful candidate for this vacancy will be aligned to the Safeguarding Children's workstream.

Applicants will have a professional registration as either a nurse, health visitor or social worker. They will also be educated to degree level or have equivalent work experience. Applicants will have a practical knowledge of how to safeguard children, young people and adults with care and support needs. The successful applicant will be expected to deputise for the Safeguarding Named Nurses for Children, Adults and Domestic Abuse when required and will be expected to represent the trust at external multiagency meetings.

The position requires an excellent understanding of how mental health and safeguarding interrelate.

Applicants must have an up to date knowledge of local safeguarding processes and will need to have an awareness of the key issues related to domestic abuse and "think family" principles.

Experience of attending multi agency safeguarding and domestic abuse meetings would be advantageous.

The post holder will need excellent communication and organisational skills and will need to be able to work autonomously and at any location across the trust.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the development of safeguarding practice to fulfil the organisation's statutory and contractual obligations. This role will include the provision of safeguarding advice, support and some teaching.

The post holder will work pro-actively across all Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) sites, with local relevant networks of safeguarding professionals and with the Local Safeguarding Board/Partnership Sub Groups to promote effective safeguarding practice.

The post holder will be part of the BSMHFT Safeguarding Team and will be expected to deputise for the Safeguarding Named Nurses and other Safeguarding Facilitators when necessary.

Person Specification


Training and Qualifications

* Evidence of continuing professional development and training in safeguarding and domestic abuse
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
* Current professional qualification (Nurse, Health Visitor or Social Work)


Knowledge and Experience

* Significant experience of working in the field of safeguarding and domestic abuse.
* Comprehensive knowledge of the issues and legistation relating to child/adult safeguarding including the impact of domestic violence
* Experience of working with parents/children suffering from mental health/addiction problems and is able to reflect on the implications for the child and the family.
* Experience of clinical supervision of staff
* Experience at Band 7 or equivalent level


Skills

* Report writing skills
* Able to analyse complex data


Personal Qualities

* Able to establish and develop effective working relationships across agency boundaries.
