Director of Learning for Science

Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2c
Start Date: September 2025 or earlier by negotiation
A secondary school in Darwen is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced teacher to join their team as Director of Learning for Science. This is a key leadership role within the school and presents an excellent opportunity for an individual with a proven track record of success in the classroom who is ready to take the next step in their career.
The Role:
The Director of Learning for Science will lead the strategic and day-to-day running of the Science department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high standards of teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and for ensuring that students of all abilities are supported to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide strong and effective leadership to the Science department
* Develop and implement a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum
* Use data and assessment effectively to monitor progress and drive improvement
* Lead on quality assurance processes and staff development within the department
* Foster a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement
* Contribute to whole-school development as part of the extended leadership team
The Ideal Candidate Will:
* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a Science-related subject
* Have experience teaching Science across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 desirable)
* Demonstrate leadership qualities with the ability to inspire and support colleagues
* Be committed to raising standards and improving student outcomes
* Possess excellent communication, organisation, and analytical skills
* Be passionate about science education and professional development
