Hays are looking to recruit a Financial Controller here in Bristol. Your new company Our client is a dynamic and growing SME based in Bristol. With a strong commercial focus and ambitious growth plans, we are seeking a Financial Controller to lead the finance operations and support the Finance Director with strategic decision-making across the business. Your new role Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust controls, and helping with insightful analysis. This is a hands-on role working as a number 2 in a growing business. The role will include: Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, board packs, and financial reports Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including VAT and HMRC filings. Maintain and improve internal financial controls and processes. Support the Finance Director with financial modelling, business case development, and commercial analysis. Oversee the year-end audit and liaise with external auditors and advisors. Manage and develop a small finance team. Drive improvements in financial systems and reporting tools. Provide financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making. What you'll need to succeed We are looking for someone: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent). Proven experience in a Financial Controller or similar role within an SME. Strong technical accounting knowledge. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a hands-on environment. What you'll get in return This is a great opportunity to add value and make a difference.
