Overview
Role: Security Assistant – The Bedford College Group. Location: Tresham College – Wellingborough Campus, with attendance at other college campuses in the region. Term: Permanent – Term Time. Hours: 40 hours per week – 36 weeks per year. Salary: Between £25,497 and £27,519 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications; actual salary approximately between £20,580 and £22,212 per annum DOE and Qualifications. This role is part of the Estates and Facilities department and supports student and campus safety across sites.
Responsibilities
* Campus Patrol & Safety Monitoring – Conduct regular internal and external patrols to maintain order, monitor behaviour, and ensure a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors.
* Emergency Response & Incident Management – Respond to emergencies (e.g. fire alarms, medical incidents, intruders), assist with lockdown procedures, and act professionally in challenging situations.
* Access Control & Crime Prevention – Check ID cards, prevent unauthorised access, protect property from theft or damage, and promote crime prevention across the campus.
* Operational Support & Flexibility – Assist with estates duties (e.g. deliveries, cleaning, furniture moves), support college events, and provide cover across campuses as required.
* Compliance & Professional Conduct – Uphold safeguarding, equality, and health & safety standards; maintain punctuality and professional appearance; engage in training including first aid certification.
Qualifications
* Qualifications & Training – SIA licence (or willingness to obtain), First Aid at Work qualification (or willingness to undertake), and GCSEs in English and Maths (A–C or equivalent).
* Experience & Knowledge – Experience in customer-focused/public-facing environments, with basic health & safety awareness and understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
* Skills & Attributes – Strong verbal and written communication, ability to defuse difficult situations, follow instructions, and work independently or as part of a team with tact and diplomacy.
* Values & Conduct – Commitment to College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty), reliable, proactive, and professional in all interactions.
* Flexibility & Mobility – Valid driving licence, access to a vehicle, and willingness to work across all College sites and adapt hours to meet operational needs.
