A Surface Technology Specialist is required to support a major global aerospace organisation within its Materials, Processes & Test engineering team based in Filton. The organisation is a leading aircraft manufacturer, driving innovation in sustainable materials, advanced coatings, and next-generation aerospace technologies.
This opportunity sits within a highly specialised engineering function, focusing on the development, qualification, and support of surface technologies used across aircraft programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and deploy materials, processes, and testing technologies across the product lifecycle
* Provide expertise in corrosion protection, coatings, sealants, and surface treatments
* Support design, manufacturing, and in-service operations with technical solutions
* Conduct corrosion analysis and develop protection strategies
* Drive process improvements, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives
* Ensure compliance with EHS/REACh and support transition to chromate-free technologies (2).pdf)
* Collaborate with cross-functional and international engineering teams
Required Skills & Experience
* Experience in surface technology, corrosion protection, or materials engineering
* Background in aerospace, automotive, or regulated industries.
* Knowledge of metallic/composite materials, coatings, and surface treatments
* Experience with material testing (e.g., corrosion, salt spray, coatings validation)
* Strong problem-solving and technical analysis skills
* Effective communication and ability to work in multi-site teams
Desirable: Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, or Engineering
