LOCATION: Working between Central London office and remotely on a hybrid basis (3 days in office)

SHIFT PATTERN: Mon-Fri 8-5

SALARY: £35, - £40, per annum

Role Overview

This is a development role for an individual looking to build a career in commercial management within a large, complex services organisation. Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, the Assistant / Junior Commercial Manager will support the commercial function across the contract lifecycle, gaining hands-on experience in contract management, cost control, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

The role is suited to someone with strong transferable skills, commercial curiosity, and the ambition to progress into a fully-fledged Commercial Manager role over time.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Support & Contract Management

1. Support the Commercial Director and wider commercial team in the day-to-day commercial management of contracts
2. Assist with contract administration, ensuring commercial records, registers, and documentation are accurate and up to date
3. Help track contractual obligations, variations, and changes in scope

Cost Control & Financial Awareness

4. Support cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting activities
5. Assist with the preparation of commercial reports, dashboards, and performance data
6. Help monitor costs, margins, and risks across contracts

Variations & Change Management

7. Support the preparation, costing, and administration of variations and additional works
8. Maintain logs and trackers for changes, ensuring approvals and records are properly maintained

Risk & Governance

9. Assist in identifying commercial risks and opportunities within contracts
10. Support the maintenance of risk registers and early warning processes
11. Ensure commercial processes align with internal governance and controls

Stakeholder Engagement

12. Work closely with operational teams to understand service delivery and commercial impacts
13. Support communication with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders as required
14. Build effective working relationships across finance, operations, procurement, and commercial teams

Learning & Development

15. Develop an understanding of commercial principles, contract frameworks, and industry best practice
16. Participate in training, mentoring, and on-the-job learning to support long-term career progression

Person Specification

Essential

17. Strong transferable skills gained through previous roles, education, or placements
18. Good numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
19. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
20. Clear written and verbal communication skills
21. Confidence working with data, reports, and documentation
22. A proactive attitude and willingness to learn

Desirable (but not essential)

23. Exposure to commercial, financial, contract, or operational environments
24. Experience within facilities management, engineering, construction, or service-based industries
25. Familiarity with Excel or reporting tools
26. An interest in developing a long-term career in commercial management

Qualifications

27. No specific commercial qualification required
28. Relevant degree, vocational qualification, or willingness to work towards commercial training is advantageous
