Purpose of the Role The successful candidate will manage a caseload of privately funded Family matters under the supervision of the Head of Department, ensuring work is carried out in accordance with the firm’s Office Manual and professional standards. They will play an active role in business development and represent the firm in a professional manner at all times.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and progress a caseload of privately funded Family matters, including complex work, from initial instruction through to conclusion.
2. Conduct client meetings, take detailed instructions, and provide clear, pragmatic advice.
3. Maintain files to a high standard, ensuring full compliance with internal procedures and accurate attendance notes.
4. Undertake advocacy and attend Court as required.
5. Record time efficiently and prepare accurate bills.
6. Proactively build, grow, and maintain a steady caseload through networking and business development activities.
7. Meet WIP, billing, and cash collection targets.
8. Carry out reasonable tasks or instructions from Directors, the Head of Department, or senior fee earners.
9. Attend departmental and fee earner meetings as required.
10. Conduct file reviews for other fee earners when requested.
11. Travel between offices as necessary to meet client or business needs.
12. Demonstrate flexibility in line with operational requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
13. Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with litigation and advocacy rights.
14. Minimum 4 years’ fee-earning experience within a Private Family Law department.
15. Strong experience managing a private Family Law caseload, including divorce, finances, and private children matters.
16. Some knowledge of Legal Aid work is advantageous.
17. Familiarity with Lexcel requirements.
18. Proven business development and networking skills.
19. Professional, friendly, and personable client manner.
20. Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
21. Ability to follow office procedures in line with the Office Manual.
22. Full driving licence and access to own vehicle (essential).
23. Competent user of Microsoft Office and case management systems.
