The Role:
We are seeking an Interim Finance Director to guide the Finance Team and support the Board during a transition period in the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Stabilisation & Oversight
* Quickly assess current financial controls, policies, and reporting standards.
Financial Reporting & Forecasting
* Produce clear monthly management accounts for the board.
* Create/update rolling cashflow forecasts (short and medium term).
* Review and stress-test forecasts against current trading.
Governance & Compliance
* Verify statutory obligations (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, pensions, Companies House filings).
* Ensure robust audit trail and reconciliations (bank, creditors, debtors).
* Implement or reinforce approval controls for payments and expenses.
Stakeholder Management
* Act as financial sounding board.
* Support relationships with banks, auditors, and HMRC.
* Build trust with the management team and communicate effectively.
Team & People
* Coach, mentor, the Finance Team where needed.
* Plug immediate gaps (hands-on if necessary).
Strategic Input
* Provide commercial insight on pricing, margins, and contracts.
* Support tendering, supply-chain negotiations, and customer profitability analysis.
* Advise on funding options (loans, invoice finance, grants).
Exit/Transition
* Prepare handover pack for permanent FD/finance lead.
* Leave behind clear processes, reporting templates, and team responsibilities.
* Highlight risks and opportunities for the incoming FD/board.
* Ensure cashflow is understood and managed daily/weekly.
* Check accuracy and timeliness of management accounts.
* Identify any immediate financial risks or compliance gaps.
What We're Looking For:
* Experienced Finance Director or Finance Leader with a manufacturing or industrial background.
* Proven success in enhancing financial processes and cost management.
* Strong communicator skilled in stakeholder engagement.
* Skilled contract negotiator with proficiency in risk management.
* Proven track record in leading high-performance finance teams.
* ACA/ACCA/CIMA certified with keen attention to detail and strategic acumen.
