SCPHN School Nurse Band 6

Havering has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 School Nurse. We welcome all Qualified School Nurses with SCPHN qualification or Student School Nurses about to qualify to apply for this role.

We are looking to recruit motivated practitioners with initiative and drive to join our friendly and enthusiastic team and contribute to the further development of our service.

We work within a 0 -19 Healthy Child contract and our services work in close collaboration with Family hubs as well as other agencies to improve outcomes and reduce health inequalities for children, young people and their families in our borough.

Newly qualified practitioners have a 12 months Preceptorship Programme in place to aid their development. We also offer a wide range of training opportunities for continuous professional development through our learning and development department and external agencies.

We offer clinical supervision, mentorship and appraisals in order to support your development. We are keen to celebrate success in helping to improve health outcomes for children.

You will need to have the ability to work autonomously and as part of an integrated skill mix team. You need to have excellent communication skills and experience of working in partnership across organisational boundaries. You need to be willing to facilitate and support change in service delivery.

Main duties of the job

To identify and assess the health needs of school aged children and families in need, working in partnership with Primary Care, Education, Children’s Services, Voluntary Sector and other agencies.

To identify and assess children 5-19 with complex health needs, offering an enhanced integrated service within the multi agency team. Ensuring they have access to the support required to improve outcomes for children and young people.

Identifying possible safeguarding concerns, escalating as required and working with other agencies to support children and their families.

This role also includes working alongside social care, targeted services, family hubs, schools and members of the multi disciplinary team to ensure health equalities for all children, young people and families in Havering.

High Cost Area Supplement – London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary. (minimum payment of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 - Per annum, pro rata for part time.

6. Relevant expereince working with children / young people

8. Experience of working across organisational boundaries within health/social care
9. Experience of employing evidence based practice
