The minimum salary will be £20,040.71 for G5 009. This will be pro-rata.

We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic and experienced Social Mentor with exceptional behaviour management skills to work within our school, supporting pupils with Social Emotional Mental Health and other needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a school where:

Our staff understand that for pupils to successfully engage in academic learning, they need to feel supported and belong. Our Learning Hub is our dedicated space in school, specifically designed to help support pupils so they feel ready to access the classroom environment.

We are looking for a person to work within the Learning Hub, under the direction of our Lead Social Mentor.

You will:

* Plan and lead activities to help pupils develop essential skills and strategies (e.g. managing frustrations, flexibility, communicating feelings)
* Liaise with TAs and class teachers of identified pupils
* Contribute to or write ‘individual behaviour plans’ with guidance from the lead
* Plan and implement strategies identified by the Lead Social Mentor or from reports written by external agencies
* Set clear and consistent expectations
* Giving pupils a fresh start for each session
* Through stay and play sessions with family members, help develop interaction between parents and their children
* Supporting pupils at lunchtime, giving advice to lunchtime supervisors for successful interactions with pupils
* Develop the role and skills of playground mentors

In return, the successful Social Mentor will:

* Work alongside supportive senior leaders, including the SENDCO
* Receive hands-on support and direction from Lead Social Mentor
* Have access to a range of training/professional development opportunities
* Be based in our newly refurbished ‘Learning Hub’
* Have the autonomy to use professional expertise when making decisions about what is right for our pupils
* Be supported by other professionals such as, Educational Psychologist, SEND advisory services, Speech and Language team etc

The ideal candidate will:

* Have a passion for working with young people and want to make a difference in people’s lives
* Have a good understanding of the impact of trauma and empathy towards the needs of our young children
* Bring positive commitment to young people and an awareness of their needs
* Commit to school policies and procedures
* Be well-organised, adaptable and practical
* Able to remain calm and work under pressure, sometimes in stressful and challenging situations
* Be self-motivated and be able to use own initiative.
* Competent to use ICT – to create lesson resources and to write reports
* Has an appropriate Level 3 qualification or experience in school Have GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.

Experience and training that is desirable:

* Trauma informed training
* Aces
* Emotion coaching
* De-escalation training
