The Role
You will be a Principal Materials and Structural Integrity Engineer with an established maritime defence engineering team. Your focus will be on testing submarine and surface ship structures to evaluate performance under operational conditions, primarily supporting the Royal Navy. You will lead technical efforts in materials engineering, specializing in ferrous materials, welding, material testing and qualification, fatigue and fracture mechanics. You will oversee the delivery of key technical outputs, design reports, documentation, and will be responsible for reviewing and approving work packages, reports, and drawings.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
* Leading and coordinating engineering activities to deliver technical programmes effectively. Apply expert judgement to solve complex problems, manage schedules, and ensure delivery within scope, budget, and quality standards.

* Encourage collaboration across the Group and wider technical teams; work with other functions (e.g., Technical Excellence, Safety Engineering) to deliver work that complies with statutory, regulatory, company, and project‑specific processes.
* Identify and develop joint technical approaches with partner organisations and other parties to expand our offering, supporting Business Development and Sales strategy. Give technical presentations and discuss work in external forums, conferences, and customer meetings.
* Ensure projects/programmes are conducted safely, highlighting hazards and providing options to reduce risk to the lowest responsibly practicable level.
Essential Experience of the Principal Materials and Structural Integrity Engineer
* Significant previous experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
* Substantial experience of maritime structural design to recognised codes of practice.
* Strong communication skills, written, verbal, and presentational, including the ability to convey complex information.
* Effective customer and stakeholder management skills; able to explain and discuss technically complex subjects to non‑technical audiences.
Essential Qualifications for the Principal Materials and Structural Integrity Engineer
* BEng/MEng in Engineering or Materials Science, or equivalent engineering experience.
* Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.

This role is 37 hours per week based at Rosyth. Hybrid working patterns are available.
