Senior Estimator
Location: Chesterfield
Reporting to: Pre-Contracts Director (based at Head Office, Ipswich)
Overview
We are currently seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team, based out in the Chesterfield office. The primary purpose of this role is to prepare, process, and submit tenders for contracts by accurately calculating the costs involved in supplying products or services that meet clients' technical specifications.
A full UK driving licence is essential, as some travel may be required to Huntingdon, Peterborough, or similar locations. The role also involves occasional attendance at meetings and reviews at Head Office in Ipswich.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and co-ordinate information for bids and tenders within your designated area.
Research materials, equipment, and labour costs to ensure accurate tender submissions.
Gain a clear understanding of client needs and project requirements.
Collect and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
Plan job timescales and project phases effectively.
Assess and advise on commercial risk, and contribute to quality submissions.
Prepare and submit quotations and tenders for work.
Assist with bids for new contracts and support the procurement team with buying activities.
Monitor project stages to ensure costs remain aligned with forecasts.
Clearly communicate the financial elements of tenders to site staff at tender handover.
Ensure all work complies with company quality, safety, and environmental policies as well as procedural requirements
Skills Required
Strong construction background with a solid understanding of estimating techniques.
Proficient in spreadsheet use and data analysis.
Experience working on civil engineering schemes with a main contractor is essential.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ambitious and flexible approach.
Strong analytical ability for detailed evaluation of direct and indirect costs.
Proven ability to manage multiple tenders, meet strict deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
Must be eligible to work in the UK.
