Overview
Deputy Dean of Graduate Research (Part-time) – Level C, D or E appointment at UNSW.Reporting to and supporting Professor Jonathan Morris, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Training and Dean of Graduate Research, you will provide strategic leadership on Higher Degree Research (HDR). Your focus will be on developing and delivering training and development programs for HDR candidates and supervisors, as well as broader strategic contributions — including national and international representation, collaboration with senior leaders, industry and partner universities, shaping HDR policy and governance, and deputising for the Pro Vice-Chancellor as required.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to academic leadership at a G08 university.
* Operate on a university-wide platform; support and influence senior leaders across faculties.
* Take part in a Level C (Senior Lecturer), Level D (Associate Professor), or Level E (Professor) appointment, pro-rata.
* Part-time (0.6FTE), 5-year fixed term contract.
* Lead the design and delivery of HDR training and development for candidates and supervisors; engage with external partners and industry where appropriate.
* Represent UNSW nationally and internationally, and collaborate with senior leaders, industry, and partner universities.
* Contribute to HDR policy and governance and deputise for the Pro Vice-Chancellor as required.
Organisation context
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor Research Training (PVCRT) portfolio provides leadership, support, and central administration for HDR candidates, supervisors and other members of the research community. At UNSW, our 4,000+ HDR candidates are a key part of the research ecosystem. HDR programs are managed at the university level, in collaboration with Faculties, Schools and central services. The PVCRT portfolio, including the Graduate Research School and Research Training team, aims to develop researchers who are globally focused and socially engaged, through priorities such as building research capacity, enhancing researcher experience, and developing researcher capability. The portfolio also supports HDR candidates with external engagement opportunities (industry and global) leveraging UNSW’s societal impact through research.
Qualifications and experience
You are a respected academic with a significant record of research, publication, and knowledge and experience of the HDR landscape, and you demonstrate commitment to UNSW Sydney’s strategic objectives. Please view the Position Description for specific skills and experience.
