Job Responsibilities
* Work independently to manage a complex and multi-faceted caseload, ensuring appropriate levels of responsibility.
* Engage directly with children, young people, and families, prioritizing their safety and using collaborative approaches to empower families.
* Conduct meaningful and in-depth assessments of social need and risk/harm to children, focusing on parental capacity.
* Recognize harm and risk indicators and consider the possibility of exploitation, including online risks.
* Provide reflective and research-based supervision and mentorship to colleagues.
* Resolve complex and high-risk situations using negotiations and diplomacy.
* Promote safeguarding within the team in line with policy and procedures.
* Model high-quality social work practice and exemplify professional standards.
* Represent the council and lead in multi-disciplinary working with health, police, and other partner organizations.
* Provide professional support and advice to colleagues, including students and less qualified social workers.
* Supervise and appraise social workers to influence and improve service delivery.
* Contribute to the development of best practices in social work.
* Operate within defined budgetary and financial policy and process.
* Participate in performance management reviews and contribute to creating a high-quality service.
* Chair professional multi-agency/disciplinary meetings to ensure effective practice.
* Support qualified staff in attending Child Protection Conferences and Statutory reviews.
Person Specifications
* Significant relevant professional experience post qualification in a similar work environment.
* Experience of multi-disciplinary working and chairing formal meetings.
* Experience of undertaking assessments and writing court reports.
* Proven knowledge in assessing and managing higher levels of risk.
* Expert knowledge of relevant policy, systems, work practices, and legislation.
* Effective communication skills with people at all levels, including written reports.
* Evidence of professional development and contribution to the development and learning of others.
* Experience of supporting people through change and implementing practice and policy changes.
* Experience of supervision, appraisal, and professional development of staff.
* Excellent IT skills and ability to promote digital self-help platforms.
* Planning and workload management skills.
* Proven ability to deliver training, accurate record keeping, and report writing.
* Excellent presentation and training skills.
* Proven organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
* Experience in audit and/or engagement in research.
* Experience in monitoring financial spend.
* Fluency in the English language.
