How you will make an impact

Cabrini Pathology is a multidisciplinary pathology laboratory operating 24/7 and provides a quality service for the rapid diagnosis of disease and subsequent patient monitoring.

The Medical Scientist Grade 3 (Blood Bank) is a key member of the Pathology leadership team, performing the essential role of supervising our busy blood bank, ensuring the provision of safe and timely supply of blood and blood products to clients of Cabrini Pathology.

To be successful in this role, you will be committed to maintaining the highest professional standards and continually develop your skills and those of your team.

Key responsibilities will include:

6. Monitoring work within your area, ensuring safe and timely supply of blood and blood products

7. Ensuring the receipt of specimens and orders into the laboratory in a timely and accurate manner and performing data entry as required

8. Processing specimens according to departmental procedures and ensuring that correct sample identification has been completed

9. Performing calibrations and testing, either on analysers or manually, to obtain results for reporting

10. Performing internal and external quality control procedures and taking appropriate action if controls are out of range

11. Interpreting and authorising results to a level consistent with training and taking appropriate action with abnormal/urgent results

12. Participating in and providing, training and ongoing education to develop and maintain competency in manual and automated immunohaematology techniques to assist in the functioning of the department

About you

Along with a high level customer service focus to both internal and external clients, you will also have the following:

13. Bachelor of Applied Science (MLS) or equivalent

14. Membership of AIMS (desirable)

15. Post graduate qualification in relevant field

16. Significant experience working in an immunohaematology laboratory essential

17. Understanding of NATA and ISO15189 quality system requirements

18. Knowledge of pathology testing requirements

19. Understanding of quality control and quality assurance programs

20. Capability to troubleshoot problems and acting to resolve the cause of analytical errors

21. Well developed interpersonal skills and a professional approach

22. Ability to work well autonomously or within a team
