Overview
Mentoring Services Practitioner - Mentoring Plus role at Bath & North East Somerset Council. Fixed term to July 2026 with scope to make permanent. This role is with the youth charity Mentoring Plus which supports young people aged 5-25 across several projects, offering positive one-to-one mentoring and opportunities to help build confidence, self-esteem, engagement with education and emotional wellbeing.
The practitioner will help ensure our work is accessible and safe: receiving referrals, getting to know the young person, matching them with a mentor and supporting the mentoring relationship. You will supervise adult mentors, follow up safeguarding concerns and represent the young person’s interests in multi-agency support processes.
Responsibilities
* Receive referrals and become acquainted with the young person.
* Match the young person with an appropriate mentor and support the mentoring relationship.
* Supervise adult mentors, follow up safeguarding concerns and represent the young person’s interests in multi-agency processes.
* Build rapport with families (focus on the child), schools and fellow professionals.
* Deliver mentor training periodically and offer inspiring group activities in school holidays.
* Maintain accurate records on our secure casework database.
* Engage in assessment with mentees, often involving activities such as sport, art, cookery, wildlife, board games, or other activities that mentees want to do.
* Work largely with adults while spending significant time with mentees to support their development and confidence.
* Participate in management supervision, monthly clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development.
Role profile / Qualifications
* Experience in an equivalent role in education, healthcare, social care, voluntary sectors, or similar.
* Confidence in working with young people needing extra support and ability to support adults to reflect on their practice, building knowledge and abilities.
* Empathy and warmth, clear and compassionate communication with professionals, and accurate record-keeping.
* Full driving licence, access to a well-maintained car and business insurance (the role covers a broad geographic area, including rural communities).
