Medical Secretary Oncology

If you have highly efficient secretarial and organisational skills, an opportunity has arisen for a medical secretary position within the Oncology service at Worthing hospital.
We are looking for an individual who has the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and the clinical staff.
Previous secretarial/administration experience and typing skills are essential, as are knowledge of the hospital environment and medical terminology.

Main duties of the job
To work as part of the administration team to provide accurate and efficient secretarial support for the Oncology Service at Worthing.
Your role will involve working as part of a busy team supporting the Oncology service and patients at Worthing hospital. It is wide and varied, with tasks including liaising with patients, other departments and clinicians. If you enjoy being a team player this post offers variety and the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the team with the efficient running of the administrative service.
* Transcription of author dictation
* Supporting with clinician generated administration relative to the patient pathway
* Reviewing patient outcomes to ensure next step in the pathway is booked
* Tracking of investigations
* Cross cover for colleagues where required
Skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Ability to work to deadlines and meet conflicting demands
* Excellent knowledge of a full range of secretarial procedures and office duties
* Excellent organisational skills
* Excellent knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel
* Experience of minute taking
* Previous NHS Medical Secretary experience
* Knowledge of Patient Information System (PAS)
* Experience of audio typing
Qualifications
* 3 GCSEs including English & Mathematics Grade A‑C or equivalent
* RSA3 and/or knowledge acquired through experience
* An appropriate qualification in word processing or typing, for example RSA III or equivalent AMSPAR diploma
* Medical Terminology Qualification

* Ability to work independently

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Visa and Work Eligibility
This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds.
