Head of Medical Services – Full Job Description Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Head of Medical Operations with a strong background in private healthcare and extensive knowledge of operations and Care Quality Commission (CQC) compliance.

This is a senior management position requiring both operational leadership and strategic input. The successful candidate will oversee medical operations across the organisation, lead teams, manage key clients and, and act as a trusted advisor to clients, partners, and stakeholders.

With the ability to manage complex client relationships, consult on best practices, and influence business direction, the Head of Medical Operations will play a pivotal role in both day-to-day delivery and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities Strategic & Senior Management

* Provide leadership and direction to support the organisation's growth and long-term objectives.
* Work closely with the senior leadership team and stakeholders to shape business strategy and service development.
* Act as a consultant and advisor to internal teams and external clients on best practice, compliance, and operational improvements.

Operational & Regulatory Management

* Oversee the day-to-day running of medical operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and service excellence.
* Maintain CQC compliance, including inspections, audits, and ongoing governance.
* Develop and enforce robust risk management, Health & Safety, and GDPR protocols.
* Implement systems and processes that enhance clinical quality and operational efficiency.

Business & Client Management

* Act as the key contact for high-value clients, ensuring excellent relationship management and service delivery.
* Provide expert advice on compliance, regulatory matters, and business improvements.
* Monitor financial performance, budgets, and reporting, identifying opportunities for increased revenue and profitability.
* Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers, contractors, and partners.

People & Leadership

* Lead, mentor, and develop staff across both clinical and non-clinical teams.
* Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance reviews.
* Foster a high-performance culture that prioritises patient experience, compliance, and professional standards.
* Represent the organisation at senior-level meetings and external forums.

Patient Experience & Service Delivery

* Ensure consistent delivery of a premium private healthcare experience.
* Oversee patient pathways and ensure seamless service delivery from initial enquiry to follow-up.
* Handle complex queries, complaints, and service issues with discretion and professionalism.
* Drive continuous improvement in patient satisfaction and retention.

Person Specification Essential Experience

* Proven senior-level experience in private healthcare as an Operations Lead, Practice Manager, Business Manager, or equivalent.
* Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and act in a consultative capacity.
* Extensive knowledge and practical experience of CQC standards and compliance.
* Experience leading teams and influencing at board/senior management level.
* Strong financial and business acumen, with responsibility for budgets and strategic planning.
