Key Responsibilities / Role Purpose
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Systems Accountant is a finance professional responsible for the implementation, maintenance and development of the Group’s ERP accounting software and providing training and technical advice to system users throughout the Group.
The Group is transitioning to a new ERP system (COINS). The initial focus of the role will be supporting the project team in transitioning from the existing systems to COINS, including mapping current procedures and controls to the new system requirements, systems set up and training, and data transfer. Following go-live, the main focus will be on continuous improvement, managing and promoting system usage, identifying and resolving the root cause of any post-implementation issues, and providing ongoing training to new and existing users.
This is a pivotal, high-profile role which will evolve as the Group goes through the system implementation phase. The successful implementation of COINS is crucial to the ongoing success of the Joseph Gallagher Group, and the successful candidate will be exposed to significant senior management contact.
Accountabilities
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, responsible for overseeing the implementation, maintenance, and development of the Group’s ERP system, including:
* Systems Implementation: Play a leading role in the implementation of the Group’s new ERP system (reporting to the Group Financial Controller and Group Finance Director (Project Sponsor)), leading on all financial aspects and working with other functional heads to ensure a smooth transition (including data transfer and post implementation reviews).
* Review System Performance: Monitor and review the performance of the accounting system, identifying, and addressing any issues. Maintain an issue log and take ownership of resolving system-related issues.
* Process Improvement: Proactively examine existing financial processes to identify opportunities for improvement, automation, or increased efficiency.
* System Upgrades: Collaborate with IT support to manage and test system upgrades, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
* System Development: Develop and enhance the accounting system and related financial processes to align with the evolving needs of the organisation.
* Policy and Procedure Maintenance: Review and maintain all financial systems policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
* Training and Support: Provide organisation-wide systems training and support to end-users, ensuring they understand how to use the system effectively and efficiently. Serve as the first line of support for system-related inquiries and issues.
* Group Accounting System Management: Manage the group accounting system day to day, overseeing data integrity and reporting.
* Integration: Integrate the accounting system across any new subsidiaries.
Required Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications
Required:
* Recognised professional accounting qualification.
* Demonstrable hands-on experience of working with COINS, including workflows
* Systems maintenance experience.
* Experience of developing and providing training to systems users throughout the organization.
* Good understanding of financial and contract accounting processes and procedures.
* Excellent standard of written and oral communication.
* Report writing experience.
* Current driving licence.
Desired:
* Relevant sector experience (eg construction, engineering, contracting).
* Good understanding of accounting and tax requirements within the construction industry
* Excellent interpersonal skills with an aptitude for dealing with people from all functions and at all levels across the Group with tact and diplomacy.
* Able to work on own initiative whilst recognising the bounds of one’s responsibility and keeping line managers appraised of progress.
* Available for a quick start.
