Newcastle City Council SEND Outreach Service is looking to appoint a full time Learning Support Assistant to work with children and young people with additional needs in terms of speech, language and communication. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in working within a highly professional, skilled and dedicated team of people who are highly respected across schools and services in Newcastle. A child centred and inclusive approach achieving the best outcomes for children and young people is central to the work we do. High quality training, support and induction package is provided both from the immediate team and from Newcastle City Council more generally

The SEND Outreach Service is a highly valued team of specialist teachers, Learning Support Assistants and Specialist Nursery Nurses who work across schools and other educational settings across Newcastle. The DLD team within SEND OS is a multi-disciplinary team coordinated by the SEND OS specialist teacher for speech, language and communication. The team includes speech and language therapists, learning support assistants and time from the Educational Psychology Service to provide high quality advice and intensive support to individual children and young people in Newcastle mainstream schools. We actively work to promote and model inclusive practices and develop capacity within mainstream schools. The job requires working in an agile manner; you will need to be able to make visits on a daily basis to several different schools across the city. Most of the day is spent in schools supporting pupils with some time set aside for meetings, planning and preparation. There is an option to work from home or from offices located in the Civic Centre and Westgate Community College.

The main duties of the DLD Team LSA will be to:

Deliver intensive intervention to children and young people with identified speech and language needs,

Plan and prepare relevant programmes in accordance with an Individual Education Plan under supervision from the DLD team coordinator and Speech and Language Therapists,

Create and maintain up to date records, attend reviews and other pupil related meetings in school and provide feedback to other members of the team,

Work with other staff and independently in schools, seeking advice as required.The successful candidate will need to demonstrate enthusiasm for achieving the best possible outcomes for our children and young people as well as being adaptable and responsive to the needs of the job. Team working skills are essential.
