Consultant Pathologist – Histopathology
Applications are invited for a Consultant Pathologist to join the current 22 Consultant team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, a University affiliated Teaching Hospital. An interest in dermatopathology and urology would be particularly welcome, however, the department is flexible and is willing to consider applicants with any other areas of interest.
Location & Team
The department handles approximately 37,000 surgical and 4,700 diagnostic cytology specimens and has full UKAS ISO 15189:2022 accreditation. The Molecular Genetics laboratory is on-site, and the laboratory has an established, integrated Biorepository to support research. The post is offered on a whole-time equivalent basis, including 2 Standard Practitioner Agreements (SPAs), with opportunity for up to 2 Enhanced Practitioner Agreements (EPAs) by mutual agreement. Candidates who wish to work less than full‑time will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of the 22 Consultant team within the Pathology Department.
- Perform diagnostics on surgical and cytology specimens according to RCPath points guidance.
- Fulfill any duties described in the official job description.
- Engage in teaching, research and participation in private practice.
- Act as a team player and enthusiastic trainer.
Qualifications & Registration
- Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required (licence must be in place prior to starting).
- Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
- CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded.
- Doctors with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC must have confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Locum Consultant appointments (up to 12 months) may be considered for doctors not yet on the GMC Specialist Register; during locum employment, a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be applied for with GMC.
