EQUANS is looking for a Lead fire Engineerto join our team inBirmingham or London on a permanentbasis. This is a fulltimerole working Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salaryand benefits package.
The Lead Fire Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for developing and delivering robust fire safety strategies across regeneration, retrofit, and new-build projects.
This potentially includes complex occupied refurbishments and high-rise residential schemes. The role provides strategic guidance, technical assurance, and regulatory compliance, ensuring fire safety is integrated into sustainable design and digital workflows.
What will you deliver?
Fire Safety Design, Strategy and Engineering Leadership
1. Coordinate/ develop fire strategies compliant with UK Building Regulations, BS, BS .
2. Lead fire risk assessments, smoke and egress modelling, and structural fire resistance analysis.
3. Provide guidance on passive and active fire protection systems.
4. Integrate fire safety into MMC and low-carbon design solutions.
5. Ensure BIM integration for fire safety elements and accurate digital records.
6. Collaborate with architectural, structural, and MEP teams to embed fire safety into coordinated design solutions.
Project Delivery and Risk Management
7. Review and approve fire-related design documentation, specifications, and contractor submittals.
8. Oversee effective fire safety implementation during construction and commissioning.
9. Provide technical oversight during construction, ensuring fire safety measures are correctly implemented and tested.
10. Support post-occupancy fire safety reviews and contribute to building safety management strategies/ continuous improvement.
Project Delivery and Risk Management
11. Review and approve fire-related design documentation, specifications, and contractor submittals.

18. Participate in client engagement sessions, presentations, and interviews to articulate fire safety strategies and capabilities.

Who are we looking for?
Experience and Qualifications:
30. Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IFE or equivalent.
31. Degree in Fire Engineering or related discipline.
32. Additional qualifications or certifications in fire risk assessment, fire modelling, or building safety (e.g. NEBOSH Fire Safety, CFPA Europe) are desirable.
33. At least 10 years of experience in fire engineering, including involvement with complex projects or equivalent relevant experience.
34. Experience in regulatory engagement and work winning.
