We are delighted to advertise the role of Science Technician.
This role is crucial to students, science staff, and the science curriculum: safe and accurate storage and preparation of materials for practical work underpin both health & safety and an engaging curriculum.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Prepare classrooms, laboratories, and workshops for use by staff and pupils, ensuring a safe, tidy, and healthy environment.
2. Prepare, supply, and collect teaching materials for schemes of work, displays, apparatus, and equipment; provide technical assistance and support to staff and pupils on safe and economical use of equipment, including electrical equipment.
3. Demonstrate, advise, and assist in practical activities and experiments.
4. Assist with IT and other equipment related to displays, machinery, and experiments, ensuring security and availability.
5. Maintain and repair equipment or organize maintenance, seeking specialist help when needed.
6. Keep workshops, labs, and classrooms clean and safe; conduct routine checks, maintenance, calibration, and fault investigations.
7. Ensure safe storage and disposal of equipment and hazardous materials, following regulations and school procedures.
8. Maintain stock records, undertake stocktaking, and manage orders and receipts for supplies and equipment.
9. Assist with issuing and returning textbooks and perform clerical duties as needed.
10. Help organize and prepare displays for school events.
11. Adhere to health and safety regulations, participate in risk assessments, and contribute to safety policy reviews.
12. Support teaching staff and assist or advise other technicians as needed.
