Job Summary
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to expand our GI services in North Cumbria. This replacement post is available due to retirement and will support the Bowel Cancer Screening service. The successful candidate will contribute to dedicated Bowel Cancer Screening lists and may take on a leadership role within Bowel Cancer Screening and endoscopy services. In addition, there are two general gastroenterology posts funded to join our current team. The post holder will be required to support the GI bleeding rota.
Responsibilities
The post holder will provide dedicated colonoscopic screening lists and, together with gastroenterology colleagues, contribute to inpatient and outpatient care. They will participate in audit and quality improvement and support the development of new services in North Cumbria. The consultant team share the responsibility of ‘Consultant of the Week’ on a rotational basis to cover the GI inpatient work and contribute to the GI bleed rota. The team is supported by deanery trainees, Trust doctors and specialist nurses. The post holder may be expected to fulfil some of their clinical commitments on other sites in the Trust.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
* Full GMC registration
* CCST specialist registration (or will obtain within 6 months of interview date) or CESR
* Bowel cancer screening accreditation
* MRCP (UK)
Desirable Qualifications:
* Postgraduate qualification in gastroenterology (European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology & Hepatology, MD, PhD or equivalent)
Essential Skills:
* Clinical experience and competence in gastroenterology
* Ability to provide therapeutic endoscopy for GI bleeding
* Screening colonoscopy Level 2 polypectomy
* Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable Skills:
* Screening colonoscopy Level 3 polypectomy
* Subspecialty expertise in gastroenterology or endoscopy
