Main Duties of the Job
These positions offer a fantastic opportunity to be part of exciting changes at Morecambe Bay. You will be responsible for continually improving the quality of services to patients, and redesigning services to meet best practice standards.
You will be a visible leader and provide direction to the services within your portfolio, working in collaboration with clinical lead and matron/therapy lead colleagues, as well as other directorate manager colleagues. You will be responsible and accountable for the overall management of the services within the directorate, and for all directorate staff.
You will develop the strategy for the directorate, playing a key role in identifying opportunities for clinical innovation and modernisation and leading programmes of transformation. You will be responsible for the delivery of all directorate objectives and performance targets, across all 4 quadrants of People, Quality, Operational Performance and Finance, ensuring the service we offer to patients is of the highest quality, safety and efficiency.

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification – Essential
* In‑depth professional knowledge plus additional specialist knowledge in financial management, performance management, service improvement, staff management, acquired through training and experience to Masters level.
* Knowledge across a range of clinical areas, the NHS and changes within it.
* Extensive experience in a managerial leadership role including line management of staff from a range of professional backgrounds.
* Extensive experience of working in an NHS environment with a range of professional groups.
* Considerable understanding and experience of managing complex services, including exposure to solving a range of operational and strategic problems.
