The Role
In this position, you will be responsible for setting, operating, and, where required, programming milling machines to manufacture precision-engineered parts. You will work from technical drawings and specifications, ensuring all components meet strict quality and tolerance requirements.
You will also be expected to maintain a clean and organised workspace, follow all health and safety procedures, and actively contribute to continuous improvement within the business.
Key Duties
* Set up and run conventional and/or CNC milling machines in line with production requirements
* Interpret engineering drawings and job specifications accurately
* Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters
* Produce components to tight tolerances and quality standards
* Make machine adjustments and carry out tool changes when necessary
* Inspect parts using precision measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and shadowgraphs
* Complete all relevant production and quality documentation with accuracy
* Monitor machining processes and identify any issues impacting performance
* Report faults relating to machinery, tooling, or materials promptly
* Ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures at all times
* Maintain a tidy and safe working environment
* Contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
* Support and guide team members where required
* Work closely with colleagues across production, engineering, and quality departments
About You
To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:
* Proven experience setting and operating milling machines in a manufacturing or engineering environment
* Strong ability to read and understand technical drawings
* Hands-on experience using precision measuring tools
* Good knowledge of tolerances and quality control standards
* Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high standards
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
* The ability to manage your workload independently and meet deadlines
* A solid understanding of health and safety practices in a workshop environment
