Your role in a nutshell
The Cloud Manager (Azure) is responsible for the governance, security, and operational management of the organisation’s Microsoft Azure cloud platform. The role ensures Azure services are secure, cost‑effective, well‑architected, and aligned with company standards, while maintaining strong operational integration with Infrastructure and Security teams.
This is a 12 month fixed-term role that combines leadership, operational ownership, and selective hands‑on technical involvement, ensuring Azure delivers ongoing business value.

Azure Governance, Security & Cost Optimisation
1. Oversee Azure cloud governance, ensuring alignment with company standards, security policies, and compliance requirements
2. Drive cost optimisation and best practices across Azure environments
3. Ensure appropriate controls for identity, access, security, monitoring, and compliance
4. Maintain oversight of Azure standards, policies, and operating procedures
Azure Platform & Landing Zones
5. Ensure Azure Landing Zones and associated workflows are designed, built, and maintained to a high technical and security standard
6. Deliver and maintain a secure Azure operating model
7. Ensure consistency, resilience, and scalability across Azure environments
Operational Leadership & Incident Management
8. Lead and coordinate Major Incident response relating to Azure and associated cloud services
9. Act as a senior escalation point for complex platform issues
10. Drive post‑incident reviews, root cause analysis, and service improvements
Vendor & Service Management
11. Provide a high standard of vendor and service management
12. Manage relationships with Microsoft and third‑party suppliers
13. Ensure services meet agreed SLAs, security expectations, and value‑for‑money objectives
14. Lead service reviews and escalation activities
Strategic Alignment & Stakeholder Engagement
15. Work proactively with Infrastructure and Security Operations teams to ensure strong alignment
16. Ensure cloud platform capabilities support operational and security requirements
17. Act as a key point of contact for Azure platform matters across the organisation
Architecture & Technical Assurance
18. Provide Azure architectural review and validation for new and existing solutions
19. Ensure designs meet standards for security, performance, resilience, and operability
20. Act as a design authority for Azure platform changes
Change, Projects & Continuous Improvement
21. Manage project and BAU change from design through build and transition to operations
22. Drive cloud projects and value‑add improvements to the Azure platform
23. Ensure changes follow agreed governance, risk, and change management processes
Hands‑On Technical Support (When Required)
24. Provide 3rd‑line support as required for:
25. Azure RBAC
26. Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
27. Microsoft 365 administration
28. Licence management and optimisation
29. Support complex troubleshooting and configuration activities
What we look for
Essential
30. Proven experience managing Azure cloud environments
31. Strong knowledge of Azure governance, security, and cost optimisation
32. Experience designing or operating Azure Landing Zones
33. Experience leading major incident management in a production environment
34. Strong vendor and service management experience
35. Experience managing technical change across projects and BAU
Desirable
36. Azure certifications AZ-900, as a minimum and ITIL 4 or higher.
37. Experience in regulated or security‑focused environments
