Purpose of the Role

To ensure that technical support to all maintenance staff of Colas Rail‑owned and contracted rail vehicles is effectively undertaken, ensuring safety, compliance, availability and reliability are upheld.


Person Specification

The job holder will have sound experience in rail vehicle engineering and maintenance, specifically On‑Track Machines (OTMs). They will possess thorough knowledge of all current OTM maintenance tasks, Electrical, Electronic, Hydraulic and Pneumatic repairs, P‑IC & SIFA fault finding, asset management systems and leading change. The ideal candidate should have a working knowledge of the rail operating environment, standards and safety procedures. The job holder will be a motivated self‑starter, an able, clear communicator, dynamic and tenacious and will cover the UK.


Key Responsibilities

* Act as nationwide technical support engineer, driving ownership, maintenance effectiveness and machine performance.
* Undertake planned and reactive modifications, repairs, fault finding, and provide technical support for rail vehicles and machinery.
* Liaise with Rugby‑based maintenance team leaders ensuring that advice, technical support, or drawings are understood.
* Collaborate with departmental staff on work arising, condition monitoring and issues affecting the reliability and availability of plant and machinery.
* Provide input to technical specifications and practices supporting maintenance, modification and use of rail vehicles.
* Contribute to the development of engineering standards, maintenance processes and specifications for rail vehicles and support changes to the safety management system, engineering policy, certification and training/competency issues.
* Support reliability and best‑practice initiatives through the business unit.
* Support internal and external audit regimes, processes and demonstrate prompt engagement to close out items raised.
* Monitor local plant performance through KPIs, identify fault trends and take remedial action.
* Provide on‑call technical support on a rota basis.
* Adapt to operational requirements as the organisation may change from time to time.
* Perform any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
