We are seeking a Band 5 Occupational Therapist for an exceptional post at theLondon Spinal Cord Injury Centre. They will need good knowledge and skills plus some existing NHS experience for this rewarding role, within a supportive team. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of routine and highly complex patients with Spinal Cord Injuries. In addition they will have leadership opportunities with junior staff.
Main duties of the job
To be considered for this post you will need at least 12 months post-qualification experience or relevant Technician or student experience including at least six months within the NHS or working with people with complex neuro-disability.

The Occupational Therapy team provides acute, rehabilitation and re-integration programmes for individuals of all age ranges and injury levels, from acute admission through to re-assessment of people with lifelong needs as both in- and out-patients.
In order to assist you meet the demands of this position we have a robust process for in-house training, competency achievement, weekly supervision and appraisal. As one of only 12 SCICs in the UK and Southern Ireland we have excellent links with the other SCI centres around the country as well as sharing knowledge with other specialist services here at the RNOH
Job responsibilities
To assess and treat routine and highly complex patients in this clinical unit, teach junior staff and students and support the Team Leader in developing the service.
To provide cover for administrative, managerial and clinical tasks in the temporary absence of another member of the team, as appropriate to own level of experience.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* DipCOT/ Degree in Occupational Therapy. Member of COT or recognised equivalent.
* Registered with HPC.
* COT Specialist Section/ other Special Interest Group membership Clinical supervisor's course.
Experience
* 12 months NHS experience as qualified OT or Therapy/Rehabilitation Technician
* One year's experience in an appropriate setting at Band 5
* Interest in and further study in clinical area.
Skills
* Good written and spoken English
* Able to communicate with a variety of people, occasionally in emotional distress.
* Good organisation of self and time
* Ability to reflect and appraise own performance
* Ability to self-motivate and initiate activity
* IT Skills - IT Skills (to be tested during probationary period
* Splinting, wheelchair prescription, therapeutic patient handling, discharge planning, presentation skills
Knowledge
* Broad knowledge of current best practice in OT and medical conditions associated with the clinical area.
* Understanding of team dynamics and MDT working.
* Working knowledge of common adaptive equipment
* Knowledge of neurological and biomechanical treatment approaches for complex disability.
* Awareness of some specialist equipment relevant to the post
