Ever thought about being the person a teenager quietly relies on when school feels overwhelming?
We’re on the lookout for a committed and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to work in vibrant secondary schools across Gateshead. If you get a buzz from helping a Year 7 settle into big school life or supporting a Year 11 to stay focused during exam prep, you’ll fit right in.
As a Learning Support Assistant in a secondary setting, you’ll be right at the heart of the action, supporting students across KS3 and KS4. You’ll work closely with teaching staff, helping pupils stay engaged, confident, and on track, even on the tricky days.
Your role as a Learning Support Assistant will include:
• Providing 1:1 and small group support across different subjects
• Assisting students with SEND to access lessons successfully
• Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging independence
• Adapting resources to suit different learning needs
• Offering consistent encouragement and reassurance throughout the school day
Secondary schools in Gateshead are looking for Learning Support Assistants who are steady, proactive, and genuinely care about young people’s progress. You do not need to be a subject expert, but you do need patience, empathy, and the confidence to build strong relationships with teenagers.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
• Have experience supporting young people, in schools or similar environments
• Understand the energy and structure of secondary education
• Can communicate clearly and calmly
• Build trust quickly with students and staff
• Take safeguarding and wellbeing seriously
Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, ADHD, or autism is a big plus. Backgrounds in youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, or care are highly transferable too.
