As part of the role, the successful candidate will have responsibility for the delivery of 2 projects through the construction phase which have already started on site.
This position will suit a candidate looking for a career that is fast-paced and industry-leading. It is a client‑facing role based partly on site where you will be responsible for managing wider consultant teams and project stakeholders, working with the project team to deliver the projects successfully. The role requires oversight of 2 projects for the delivery of new prisoner places – one based in Lancaster and another in Northumberland. Each project will have its own dedicated project manager who will report to you. Due to the location of the sites, this would ideally suit a candidate based in the North region (Leeds office) but may also suit Birmingham, Manchester or London if the candidate is willing to travel to site.
A great opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join our established Ministry of Justice sector within Mace, which is currently experiencing an exciting and sustained period of growth. The existing team has a proven track record of successfully delivering a wide variety of projects of the highest quality across the MoJ prison portfolio. You will be working on a project within a large programme of works with an alliance framework contractor and established professional team. The works comprise construction of new buildings along with some refurbishment/upgrade of existing facilities. This role will provide experience in project delivery throughout the construction stage to meet defined time, cost, technical performance and quality requirements. You will be highly motivated, understand developing a project plan, identify any specialist requirements and support with leading an existing professional team to drive forward the clients’ strategy. You will be responsible for management of necessary project governance and assurance tools to fulfil our obligations.

Responsibilities
* Reporting progress to the sub‑programme leadership team.
* Determining project management, technical services and external resources required for projects.
* Delivering project objectives in line with the project execution plan, managing and supervising the project team and relevant stakeholders to achieve strategic key performance indicators (KPIs).
* Monitoring and actively engaging in health, safety and well‑being aspects of the project at all stages.
* Preparing and modifying where necessary project plans and keeping them updated and relevant throughout the project.
* Overseeing project timeframes and budgets, ensuring diligent budget management and highlighting risks, challenges, and mitigations.
* Collaborating with stakeholders, including coordination of multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring robust quality systems are in place and suitably managed and monitored.
* Managing relevant meetings, providing contextual information and analysis where required, and documenting site walks.
* Partnering with stakeholders and actively participating in risk management.
* Effectively coordinating and communicating with all project parties to ensure completion of tasks and maintaining suitable standards and records.
* Documenting and taking ownership of project changes as necessary, tracking changes.
* Working collaboratively toward a net‑zero carbon transition and sharing responsibility for the proactive identification and management of associated carbon emissions and reductions during delivery of work.
Qualifications
* Substantial previous work experience in project management and construction delivery (or equivalent).
* Experience delivering projects under NEC forms of contract.
* Directing and management experience of large, diverse teams.
* Experience managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
* MCIOB/MAPM/MRICS (or working towards) or local equivalent.
* Tertiary qualifications in a related project management or construction discipline, or a non‑related degree with equivalent professional experience/apprenticeship, combined with a demonstrable intermediate level of role knowledge.
* Appropriate CSCS card or equivalent construction skills certification scheme.
Additional Experience
* Proven experience in managing small to medium and large sized projects ranging in value from £40 m to £100 m.
* Proven understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, DfMA and MMC.
* Developed communication, presentation and project planning and development skills.
* Developed budgetary oversight expertise.
* Advanced proficiency in communicating, coordinating activities and collaborating with stakeholders.
* Proven understanding of project management methodologies and practices.
* Display strong communication and negotiation skills to support the client/customer focus.
* Proactively manage internal budgets and fees, delivering agreed outcomes.
Working Arrangements & Benefits
This role entails hybrid working with attendance on site – attendance can be flexible but requires a minimum of one visit per month for each site, with remaining days working from home or a Mace regional office as required.
